National Real Estate Challenge

The National Real Estate Challenge, hosted by the University of Texas at Austin each November, allows graduate student teams from top business schools compete for the highest honors and cash awards in an invitation-only real estate case competition.  

The University of Texas at Austin were the winners of 2015 and 2016 competitions.

ULI Hines Student Competition

The ULI Hines Student Competition offers graduate students the opportunity to form their own multidisciplinary teams and engage in a challenging exercise in responsible land use. Teams of five students pursuing degrees in at least three different disciplines have two weeks to devise a development program and financial pro forma for a real, large-scale site in a North American city.

The University of Texas at Austin received 2 honorable mentions for 2020, were finalists for 2019 and won the 2017 competition.

Benefits:

  • The winning team receives $50,000 and 3 finalist teams each receive $10,000

  • One representative from each of the four finalist teams receives an all-expenses-paid site tour in the selected competition city prior to the final presentation

  • All participating finalist students attend the all-expenses-paid final presentation in the host city where the jury selects the winning project.

Other Challenge Opportunities

Each year, McCombs MBA's participate in an array of additional real estate case challenges across the country. These include the UNC Development Challenge, North Texas NAIOP Competition, and Kellogg and Harvard Real Estate Venture Competitions. More information, including registration and dates, for GRES members to participate in the competitions will be distributed throughout the year.
